ResearcherID is a new product from Thomson Reuters (formally Thomson Scientific) that allows registered users to create
a unique researcher identification number. It also allows you to:
- Build a publication list identifying your work
- Make your profile public or private
- Generate citation metrics for your publications
Accessing ResearcherID
NOAA scientists and researchers can access ResearcherID from their workstation desktops. The best way to do this
is to log in from your Web of Science interface.
- From the library homepage, select “Databases and Electronic Resources” from the left-hand menu.
- Scroll down to “Web of Science” and click on this link.
- In the white toolbar, in the upper-right corner of this screen, select “Sign In”. Sign in or create an account
if you do not already have one.
- When you are returned to the Web of Science interface, click on “My Researcher ID” in the tool bar.
Adding publications
There are a few different ways to build your publication list. You can search Web of Science for individual publications
or search Web of Science for clusters of articles using Distinct Author Sets. You can also upload a file generated in Endnote
or Endnote Web in the RIS format.
If you have a common last name and initials, it is probably easiest to use the Distinct Author Sets feature,
which clusters papers together based on citation data.
Importing Records
To import records from Endnote or Endnote Web, export the files to your desktop in the RIS format. You can then upload
those files into your publications list. These files will NOT, however, be included in your citation metrics.
