Managing your citations with Endnote: a library class this Thursday at 1pm

Staff in the World Weather Building are invited to attend the following webinar class this Thursday, 7/17 at 1pm in Conference Room 209.
Building Your EndNote Library -

Get acquainted with EndNote and learn about the user interface and setting up preferences

Learn four ways to add references to your library including manual data entry, online search, direct export,
and importing text files downloaded from online sources

Endnote software is a software tool for publishing and managing bibliographies on the Windows and Mac desktop. Using Endnote,
researchers save countless hours of typing and interpreting style requirements when creating bibliographics for curricala vitae,
manuscripts, thesis/dissertations, grant proposals and other publications.

NOAA has a site license for EndNote, ProCite, and Reference Manager from ISI Researchsoft. All NOAA researchers and library staff
are entitled to install all three software products and any updates on their desktop at no additional charge.

New for 2008: Access to AGU Digital Library

A new open-access journal-ranking database was launched in December 2007, providing users with an alternative source
of citation statistics. The SCImago Journal and Country Rank database utilizes data
retrieved from Scopus, Elsevier's subscription-based abstracts database. This database ranks journals according to a new metric,
the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), which analyzes data in a method similar to that of Google's PageRank algorithm

SJR emerges as a competitor to Thomson Scientific's impact factor, which draws its data from Thomson's Web of Science database
and utilizes an algorithm calculated by dividing the number of current year citations to the source items published in that
journal during the previous two years. SJR differs from this by also analyzing the citation links between journals iteratively.

Scientific's imact factor
